The Terry Traditional Scholarship, also known as the Freshman Scholarship, covers all your expenses for up to eight semesters.
If you’re a senior in a Texas high school and have been accepted to one of the Terry-affiliated public universities in Texas, you could qualify.
How to Apply
You can get the application for the Terry Scholarship only from the universities that are part of the Terry Scholarship Program.
You won’t find it at the Foundation or your high school. Check out these links below for application details at each university:
What Do You Need to Become a Terry Scholar?
To become a Terry Scholar, you need to meet three criteria, and each one is just as important as the others:
- Good Grades and Test Scores: Show that you’re good at school by having solid grades and SAT/ACT scores.
- Leadership Skills: You should have a history of being a leader in both school and your community.
- Financial Need: Prove that you need financial help by completing the FAFSA form.
Who Can Apply?
If you’re a U.S. citizen or a Permanent Resident and you meet Texas residency requirements, you can apply.
You also need to have graduated from a Texas high school or homeschool.
Get accepted to a Terry-affiliated school as a full-time freshman for the next Fall Semester, and promise to stay on campus for your first year.
The Interview Process
If you want to compete for a Terry Scholarship, you have to meet with a Terry Interview Panel.
They’ll review your application and decide if you’re a good fit for the scholarship.
What are the Requirements?
To be eligible for the Freshman Scholarship, you need to:
- Graduate from a Texas high school or homeschool
- Be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident and meet Texas residency requirements
- Meet the requirements for in-state tuition and federal financial aid.
- Show financial need by completing the FAFSA
- Agree to live on campus for your first year.
Qualifications for Freshman Applicants
On top of meeting the three criteria and five eligibility requirements, you also need to:
- Get accepted to a Terry-affiliated university as a full-time freshman for the fall semester right after high school
- Have one of the eleven Terry-affiliated Texas public universities pick you for an interview with the Terry Foundation.
The Interview
During the interview, you’ll answer questions from a panel of six current and former Terry Scholars.
The interview usually lasts less than 30 minutes and covers topics like your academic and personal background, as well as your family’s financial situation.
It’s pretty informal, and you’ll also get a chance to learn more about the Foundation and ask any questions you have.
